A BEAUTIFUL JEWEL IN NORTHERN WISCONSIN'S
MYRIAD OF LAKES
In the 1930's, Silver Lake was "the old swimming hole" for the boys of the nearby Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp. Only accessible by a hilly and twisting gravel road going west from Hazelhurst, this beautiful, spring-fed, sand-bottom, forty-acre lake only had one house on it at the time.
While staying with family not far from Silver Lake one summer, Carroll Jean Falkner, a young girl from Milwaukee, discovered the old CCC swimming hole and fell in love with Silver Lake.
Carroll’s description of the pristine lake was so compelling that her father, George, made the trip to Hazelhurst to see Silver Lake for himself. He, too, was captivated by the beauty of the lake and made the decision to purchase as much of the frontage there that he could afford. Eventually, this depot agent for the Railway Express Agency sought a transfer from Milwaukee and built his home on the shores of Silver Lake.
Carroll Jean went on to raise her family on Silver Lake. Fulfilling a lifelong dream, her son, Dave Anderson, has now built "Silver Lake Lodge" on a corner of the very property originally purchased by his grandfather. Dave and his wife, June, have been able to share the Silver Lake tradition with their two daughters, Jennifer and Stephanie, and now with their husbands and children as well. The entire Anderson family is pleased to share with you the legacy associated with this beautiful jewel among the myriad of lakes that make up the Lakeland area of northern Wisconsin.
